The meeting was devoted to Russia's aggression against Ukraine and diplomatic efforts that could eventually bring it to an end. The video conference of EU foreign ministers followed up on the discussion held during the most recent informal meeting of EU leaders. The aim of the talks was to exchange views on the prospects for achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
The first part of the videoconference was attended by Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, who updated EU ministers on, among other things, the status of negotiations involving the Ukrainian side.
During the meeting, Poland advocated for the EU to continue its political, military, and financial support for Ukraine, including through the use of immobilised Russian assets and Europe's active involvement in the negotiation process in cooperation with the American side. Poland also called for maintaining pressure on Russia, including through further sanctions.
Minister Sikorski emphasised that decisions within a peace deal that concern potential commitments of European states, including Poland, must be made with their participation.
