When addressing a question that Thailand says it is suspending the implementation of its "peace deal" with neighboring Cambodia on Tuesday after some Thai soldiers were wounded as a landmine went off in the Thailand-Cambodia border area and that Cambodia said Thai soldiers opened fire on Cambodian villagers in Banteay Meanchey province on Wednesday, resulting in Cambodian civilian casualties, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Thursday that China has taken note of certain new developments and new issues that have arisen in the course of implementing the related Thailand-Cambodia joint statement.

Cambodian Information Minister Neth Pheaktra said on Wednesday that Thai soldiers opened fire on Cambodian villagers in an ongoing border dispute, leaving five people wounded, according to Xinhua News Agency.

The incident came two days after Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul ordered a halt to the joint peace declaration, following a landmine explosion near Preah Vihear temple at the border area, injuring two Thai soldiers, per Xinhua.

"As a friend and close neighbor to both countries, China sincerely hopes that Thailand and Cambodia will exercise restraint, move toward each other, adhere to friendly consultations, leverage existing bilateral mechanisms, and find a mutually acceptable solution as soon as possible to prevent the situation from escalating," Lin said, adding that China will also continue to play a constructive role in de escalating tensions in its own way.
