LEMOORE, Calif. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Syska Hennessy Group Inc., of San Diego a $2.69 million Recovery Act funded contract July 20 to remove and install roofing and install roof mounted solar photovoltaic power systems (SPVPS) on buildings at Naval Air Station (NAS) in Lemoore, Calif.
"This project not only repairs roofs of buildings in need of repair, but it also installs solar photovoltaic power systems to generate an alternate source of energy," said Napoleon Biagtan, NAVFAC Southwest project manager for the photovoltaic project. "At the same time, these projects provide job opportunities for contractors and subcontractors."
Syska Hennessy Group Inc., will install SPVPS on four buildings at NAS Lemoore. The project includes the demolition and replacement of roofs on buildings to insure their integrity, longevity and suitability to have the SPVPS installed. The SPVPS will supply power to the buildings and send excess electricity produced back into the civilian sector power grid.
"Syska Hennessy Group Construction Inc., is pleased to be part of the Navy's commitment to both sustainable energy technologies and the reduction of their carbon footprint," said William T. Line, Syska Hennessy Group Construction Inc., president and chief operations officer. "NAVFAC's Dry Utilities MACC coupled with Syska's design and construction capabilities seems like the perfect tool for quickly delivering the type of project being targeted by the Recovery Act."
The contractor will complete work by January 2010.
