From USS Laboon Public Affairs

USS LABOON, At Sea (NNS) -- USS Laboon (DDG 58) participated in an international officer exchange program June 6-9 while deployed in support of Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG 2) in the Mediterranean Sea.

Laboon embarked two Croatian officers, representing one of the newest members of the NATO Alliance.

During their three-week visit, Croatian officers gained firsthand knowledge of life at sea on a U.S. Navy destroyer. Both officers stood watch on the bridge and shadowed their Laboon running mates during various ship events.

Events such as man overboard and general quarters drills, underway replenishments, helicopter operations, small boat operations and a passing exercise took place with the Croatian Navy following an SNMG-2 port visit to Split, Croatia.

The exchange proved to be very successful and allowed junior officers from both countries to share ideas and experiences and build long-lasting friendships.

Laboon is expected to return from its NATO deployment to its homeport of Norfolk, Va. at the end of August.
