SSSI Delivers First Overhauled Aircraft from Chase Field
Feb. 01, 2008
CHASE FIELD, Texas - Sikorsky Support Services, Inc. (SSSI) today announced the delivery of the first aircraft to be repaired, upgraded and overhauled at the company's new Field Operations Maintenance Facility in Beeville, Texas. The S-70 helicopter was delivered Jan. 29 to the Colombian Air Force under a contract with Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. SSSI is a unit of Sikorsky Aircraft, which is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
The Chase Field facility in Beeville, Texas, began operations in August 2007 with the support of the Beeville Development Authority, Chamber of Commerce as well as state and local governments. It includes two 90,000-square-foot hangars, an 8,000-foot-long airfield, and sufficient room for future expansion. Approximately 70 employees currently work at Chase Field, and the number is growing.
Previously, the SSSI operation was located in Jacksonville, Fla. It relocated in July 2007 when growth created the need for additional space. Other work currently in progress at the new facility includes crash damage repairs and refurbishment for both domestic and international military customers, as well as wiring upgrades for a National Guard helicopter, repairs for a U.S. Customs Border Control BLACK HAWK helicopter, and others.
In addition to structural repairs for crash damage to the Colombian S-70, SSSI performed upgrades and modifications, and is continuing its long-time field support for all the Colombian aircraft.
"Chase Field represents a highly successful collaboration between industry and government, with both realizing benefits," said David Adler, Senior Vice President for Sikorsky's Worldwide Customer Service organization, which includes SSSI. "We've got a central location, easy access, good flight weather conditions and other advantages, while the area is benefiting from economic growth. Our shared goal is to make Chase Field into an industrial complex that will bring in other companies to support the aviation industry in South Texas."
