20 LTTE cadres killed in sea fight in Sri Lanka

At least twenty Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cadres have been killed in confrontation with the security forces during the past 24 hours.
15 Tamil Tigers cadres were killed as Sri Lankan navy destroyed three Tamil Tiger boats that were threatening to approach Trincomalee, a strategic port in the eastern coast Wednesday night, said an All India Radio (AIR) report here quoting official sources.
The confrontation took place as the Navy detected suspicious looking boats, 10 of them, off Alampil in Mullaithivu district. The location was 60 nautical miles away from Trincomalee.
According to the military sources three of the LTTE boats were completely destroyed in the gun fire that ensued and another one was partially damaged.
In another incident three Tamil Tigers were killed in Padaviya in Anuradhapura district Thursday while the army was retaliating LTTE artillery attacks on civilian settlements.
Two LTTE cadres were killed in a confrontation with government troops at Maniraasa Kulam in Trincomalee district Thursday afternoon.
A temporary shelter that stocked arms and dry ration were located during the subsequent search operation at Maniraasa Kulam.
Meanwhile, Defence Ministry sources said that tension prevails at fishermen settlements in the north-western district of Mannar following indiscriminate mortar shelling by the LTTE Thursday afternoon.
