ATK Awarded $41 Million Contract to Supply Anti-Tank Barrier System to United Kingdom Ministry of Defence

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) has received a $41 million follow-on contract from the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence (Defence General Munitions IPT) to supply replenishment canisters for the U.K.'s enhanced anti-tank barrier system, Shielder. ATK will produce the electronics assemblies for the canisters at its manufacturing center of excellence in West Virginia. Final assembly will occur at the Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant in Texas, with deliveries scheduled early in calendar year 2009.
Shielder is a vehicle-launched anti-tank barrier system deployed on a modified Stormer armored troop carrier. The system is capable of rapidly deploying a suite of barrier munitions to provide battlefield perimeter defense against enemy tanks and armored vehicles.
