| October 22, 2004 Release Number: 04-10-62 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARINES ENGAGING INSURGENTS NEAR FALLUJAH FALLUJAH, Iraq - Marines from the 1st Marine Division are engaging several groups of insurgents Oct. 22, for the second consecutive day, from the outskirts of Fallujah. The engagement began at about 4 p.m. when insurgent forces from within the city fired small arms and mortars at Marines conducting security operations near the city. Marines are countering these attacks with substantial and proportionate ground fires. The I Marine Expeditionary Force continues to conduct increased security operations in order to disrupt the capabilities of insurgents in and near Fallujah. -30- |
