  • Iraqi Security Forces Open the First JCC in Northern Iraq CENTCOM News Story 26 Jun 2004 -- The Iraqi Security Forces in the Ninevah Province increased their ability to protect Iraqi citizens and to react to emergencies, when they opened the first Joint Coordination Center in northern Iraq June 23. All security operations will operate from the Mosul JCC where a representative from every security force element will be stationed to facilitate coordination.

  • Violence Strikes Iraqi Cities of Arbil, Baquba RFE/RL 26 Jun 2004 -- A car bomb exploded near a college in the northern Iraqi-Kurdish city of Arbil today, killing at least one person. Kurdish officials say some 40 people were wounded.

  • AFGHANISTAN/ELECTION/VIOLENCE VOA 26 Jun 2004 -- In Afghanistan, a bomb attack has killed three people, including two women election workers, and wounded at least 12 others. The violence comes only days before a NATO summit in Turkey considers Afghan President Hamid Karzai's request for increased security for upcoming national elections.

  • KASHMIR/VIOLENCE VOA 26 Jun 2004 -- In Indian Kashmir, suspected Islamic militants have shot dead 10 people and wounded 12 others. The attack comes a day before India and Pakistan open talks on the disputed region that has been wracked by 15 years of violence.
  • IVORY COAST / PEACE TALKS VOA 26 Jun 2004 -- Ivory Coast's President Laurent Gbagbo has invited leaders of the seven opposition and rebel groups to a meeting next week in an effort to reconstitute the defunct power-sharing government of national unity. The groups accepted the invitation on Saturday.
