| February 25, 2004 Release Number: 04-02-43 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 4ID's 2nd BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM CAPTURES ANTI-COALITION FORCE LEADER BAQUBAH, Iraq - Soldiers from 4th Infantry Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team captured Khathan Al Anber, an individual believed to be a leader of anti-coalition forces and a major source of funds for the remnants of the Fedayeen. Al Anber was captured in Baqubah in an evening raid on Feb. 23. He served as the former director of security for the Baath Party in Diyala and is suspected of being a leader of a local terrorist cell. In the past, he was linked to high-level officials in Saddam Hussein's regime including Izzit ibrahim Al-Duri. He is suspected of assisting Al-Duri with logistical support. In another incident in Baqubah, 2nd Brigade Combat Team captured seven individuals in an evening raid on Feb. 23. The men are part of an anti-coalition cell believed to be responsible for building and placing improvised explosive devices. -30- |
