U.S. Supports Conclusion of Inter-Congolese Dialogue
(Welcomes transitional government as step toward peace) (180) "The United States welcomes the June 30 announcement of the formation of the transitional government in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, an important step in the democratic process in that country," according to a State Department press release issued July 3. Following is the State Department text: (begin text) Department of State Press Statement Richard Boucher, Spokesman Washington, DC July 3, 2003 U.S. Supports Conclusion of Inter-Congolese Dialogue The United States welcomes the June 30 announcement of the formation of the transitional government in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, an important step in the democratic process in that country. The United States supports the formation of the transitional government as progress towards a peaceful resolution of the crisis in the Congo, which should culminate in the holding of the democratic elections. The United States commends Congolese President Joseph Kabila and the other parties to the transitional arrangement for achieving agreement on all outstanding issues, allowing the formation of an inclusive transitional government.
