INTRO: An explosion in a Palestinian high school near the West Bank city of Jenin has injured at least 20 students, several of them seriously. A radical Jewish group claimed responsibility, but Israeli police say they cannot confirm who was behind the incident. V-O-A's Sonja Pace has more from Jerusalem.

TEXT: According to local witnesses, one of the students found an explosive device, picked it up and was brining it into the school when it exploded.

Palestinian police say the device was Israeli-made with Hebrew writing on it.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said there were no troops in the area of the explosion at the time.

A Jewish extremist group, calling itself, Revenge of the Infants, claimed responsibility in a statement to reporters. The group said it planted the explosive device to avenge the deaths of Jewish children killed by Palestinians.

Police say they have no corroborating evidence at this time to confirm the group's claim. (SIGNED)
