• TURKEY/POL VOA 09 Mar 2003 -- The head of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, easily won a parliamentary seat in a by-election in the southeastern province of Siirt Sunday, clearing the way for him to become prime minister. The ruling party took all three seats being contested in Siirt.
