Text: Update on Afghanistan Air Operations
(17,000 sorties flown since Operation Enduring Freedom began) (140) The U.S. Central Command reported on December 24 that the United States has conducted a total approximately 17,000 air missions in the since the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom. (begin text) United States Central Command Operation Enduring Freedom Update MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., Dec. 24, 2001 -- To date, there have been approximately 17,000 operational sorties flown since the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom. Leaflets were dropped over six locations and Commando Solo broadcast missions continued in the region. Recent improvements to convoy routes on the ground have alleviated the need for daily C-17 humanitarian aid drops. Future air drops will be scheduled on a need-by-need basis.
