In February 2000 the CINC, US Southern Command dedicated the new facilities that were constructed to support the Joint Intelligence Center at Tres Esquinas in Colombia.

On 08 December 2000 Defense, Inc., Burlington, Mass., was awarded a $12,000,000 cost-plus-award- fee contract to provide for design, construction, installation, test and support of a radar site at Tres Esquinas, Colombia. The work was expected to be completed April 2002. There was one firm solicited and one proposal received. Solicitation began December 2000; negotiations were completed December 2000. Electronic Systems Center, Hanscom AFB, Mass., was the contracting activity.

The Colombian Air Force (CAF) Southern Air Group GASUR (Grupo Aereo del Sur, GASUR) is based at Tres Esquinas Air Base ("CT. ERNESTO ESGUERRA CUBIDES") -Caquet. It is primarily tasked with the ground support of Army and Police units engaged in anti-narcotics and anti-guerrilla operations in the areas bordering with Per and Brasil. It also operates the Caribbean Area Radar Program CBRN, "Red de Radar de la cuenca del Caribe".
