TÉCNICO CORPORATION is a privately owned industrial and marine manufacturing firm, specializing in turnkey ship repair items. Técnico Corporation was founded in 1990 by Rafael Torrech III in the South Norfolk part of Chesapeake, VA. Tecnico is recognized as a quality leader within the marine and industrial repair and fabrication industry. Certifications include Agreement for Boat Repair (ABR) and ASME Code Boiler and Pressure Vessel Construction & Repair. The company became ISO-9001 certified in August 2000. TÉCNICO received a Master Ship Repair Agreement (MSRA) in March 2000. Since 1990, TÉCNICO has grown from 30 employees to a workforce of over 600 skilled and responsive tradesmen, supervisors, engineers, and managers.
TÉCNICO has its core business base in the ship repair industry and has maintained a solid reputation as a first-rate provider of Maintenance and Repair (M & R), as well as Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (H, M & E) services. TÉCNICO has also diversified into more specialized areas, including Shipboard Habitability Installations, Hyperbaric Chamber Construction and Alteration Installation Team (AIT) work.
To support this diversification, TÉCNICO has expanded and now maintains shops in Mobile, AL, Jacksonville, FL, San Diego, CA and Panama City, FL. Facilities include 80,000 square feet of fabrication and machine shops. These shops provide the capability to fabricate everything from custom piping and structural items to marine furniture, stainless steel equipment, and HVAC ducting. The combination of expertise, well-located facilities, and in-house fabrication ensures that our customers receive superior quality services and products delivered on time at the lowest possible cost.
Customers include ship owners, major U.S. Shipyards, the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard and other military organizations. Técnico is called upon frequently to mobilize crews and provide services in ports worldwide and offshore. The company is prepared to develop fixed prices for turn-key operations performing interior outfitting, accommodations packages and general ship repair to passenger, commercial and naval vessels. It is certified to support pressure vessel (e.g. boilers, hyperbaric chambers) construction and repair.
A small-disadvantaged business located in Chesapeake, VA, Tecnico has turned its future around by adding NASA Langley's advanced composite fabrication technology to its ship-repair business. The cooperative relationship between Tecnico and NASA allowed Tecnico to win an $800K Mentor-Protege' contract from Loral-Vought that has translated to a $2.7M contract with Lockheed-Martin. They have been building mid-body test hardware for the Patriot missile. Congressman Sisisky had the honors of dedicating a new building that houses the licensed NASA fabrication method at Tecnico in January 1997.
The headquarters facilities in Chesapeake, Virginia , is located just minutes from the Navy's largest operating base in Norfolk. This facility includes more than 125,000 sq. ft of shop and office space spread over nearly 7 acres. The sheet metal, structural, welding, pipe, electrical, joiner and rigging shops are fully outfitted with all the necessary tools and fabrication equipment to support our ship repair focus. The facility has significant secure indoor warehouse / storage capabilities. Técnico maintains a considerable inventory of portable tools to facilitate shipboard installation and services for customers at remote sites.
