DDG-994 Callaghan

Callaghan was laid down June 26, 2978. All four ships in this class were originally contracted for the Iranian Navy. Callaghan was taken over by the US Navy by Executive Order in July 1979 after the fall of the Shah. Callaghan was reclassified as a Guided Missile Destroyer (DDG) August 8, 1979. Callaghan saw extensive operations with carrier battle-groups coupled with noteworthy modernizations. These improvements included the "New Threat Upgrade" NTU). Callaghan was decommissioned 1998-1999 and scheduled for refit and transfer to Taiwan.
