Nimitz Strike Group WESTPAC 09 Deployment
"Teamwork - A Tradition"
Nimitz put their slogan, "Teamwork, a tradition", to the test this underway with a Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX). COMPTUEX is an exercise that allows Nimitz to work alongside the aircraft of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 11 and the surface ships of Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 23 to test collective offensive and defensive capabilities. The CDC faced a gauntlet of random simulated attacks acted out as one continuous scenario until COMPTUEX is completed. The crew then simulated what to do in order to deter enemy forces.
Once COMPTUEX is complete, Nimitz rolled straight into the next and final phase of testing, Joint Training Force Exercise (JTFEX), to prove its readiness before deployment. Both of these evolutions were once 21-day exercises, but due to a small time frame combined the two in just 27 days. The cut in time gives the crew a positive edge in completing the test phases.
