Group/MSO Philadelphia operates as an Integrated Operations Command, responsible for almost 150 active duty personnel and 110 reservists, in that all our operational missions are combined under one command. This unique command structure allows for great flexibility and responsiveness in conducting our daily operations and provides "one stop shopping" to our local customers for all CG missions. In keeping with the "Team Coast Guard" concept of operations, MSO/Group Philadelphia has thoroughly integrated the Active Duty, Reserve and Auxiliary components of Team Coast Guard into one cohesive operations team. Its mission is to perform applicable duties of the Coast Guard in accordance with current directives, regulations, policies, and doctrines prescribed by the Commandant and within the limits of his operational authority by Commander, Atlantic Area, and Commander, Fifth Coast Guard District, in order to ensure the observance of the laws of the United States, promote safety on the high seas and waters under the jurisdiction of the United States (including the safety and security of our ports) and maintain a high state of readiness to meet these responsibilities.
The primary missions assigned to the MSO / Group include: Command and Support, Enforcement of Laws and Treaties, Recreational Boating Safety, Search and Rescue, Marine Inspection, Marine Environmental Protection and Response, Port Safety and Security, Waterways Management, Short Range Aids to Navigation and Ice Operations.
