6th Brigade (Professional Development), 84th Division (Institutional Training)

In 2004, the 84th Division (Institutional Training) underwent a major transformation. As a result, all 8 of the Division's brigades were inactivated and reflagged as elements of the 100th Division.

6th Brigade (Professional Development), 84th Division (Institutional Training was headquartered in Waukegan, Illinois. Its mission was to provide instruction in such subjects as Command and General Staff College (CGSC), Combined Arms and Services (CAS) Staff School, and Noncommissioned Officer Education System (NCOES) Common Leader Training.

6th Brigade was the Non-Commissioned Officer Education System, as well as the Officer Education system under the The Army School System (TASS). The Brigade was responsible for all NCOES and OES conducted within Region E. Region E consisted of 6 states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Headquarters, 6th Brigade was responsible for Soldier Professional Development courses within Region E. This included the Officer Education System and the Non-Commissioned Officer Education System. Courses taught by the command consisted of Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course (BNCOC), Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course (ANCOC), First Sergeant Course (FSC), Total Army Instructor Training Course (TAITC), Small Group Instructor Training Course (SGITC), Battle Staff NCO Course (BSNCOC), Combined Arms and Services Staff School (CAS), and Command and General Staff Officer Course (CGSOC).

The Brigade had 3 subordinate units and one direct reporting unit. Those elements that made up the command were: Headquarters, 6th Brigade in Waukegan, Illinois; the 12th Battalion (CGSC), 84th Regiment in Columbus, Ohio; the 13th Battalion (Combined Arms and Services), 84th Regiment in Harvey, Illinois; the 14th Battalion (NCOES), 84th Regiment at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin; and the Noncommissioned Officer Academy-McCoy, also at Fort McCoy. Training sites were located within commuting distance of all students serviced by this command. The exception to this was NCOES, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course and Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course taught at the NCOA-McCoy, at Fort McCoy, and the RTIs because of the live-in requirements for NCOES.

The 6th Brigade, 84th Division was first constituted on 16 November 1996 in the Army Reserve as Headquarters, 6th Brigade, 84th Division (Training), and activated at Waukegan, Illinois.
