The 10th Mountain Division (LI) officially transformed into the modular format the Army is evolving into during a ceremony at Sexton Field on 13 September 2004. As part of the ceremony, seven units were inactivated and 13 units were activated. Among the seven units inactivated was the 710th Main Support Battalion, and the 13 units activated included the 710th Brigade Support Battalion.
The 710th MSB was the largest of the battalions within the DISCOM. They provide medical, maintenance, and supply support to the separate division units as well as back up support for the forward support battalions located at Ft Drum. They provide outload support to the division whenever brigades deploy.
The battalion consists of Headquarters and A Company, B Company (maintenance), C Company (medical), and D Company (transportation). They participate in some manner in virtually every training or real-world exercise that the 10th Mountain Division executes.
As of late spring 2006, the 710th Brigade Support Battalion was conducting operations in Afghanistan.
