615th Aviation Support Battalion
The 615th Aviation Support Battalion was inactivaed along with the rest of the DISCOM forces in early 2005. It was later reactivated with the Air Combat Aviation Battalion at Fort Hood in 2005.
The 615th Aviation Support Battalion is the first of its kind in the 1st Cavalry Division. With the forming of the battalion, the 615th Aviation Support Battalion has absorbed the history and honor of the soldiers assigned to Company F, 2-227 Aviation Regiment and Company C, 27th Main Support Battalion. These two companies, combined with the battalion's Headquarters and Supply Company, have formed a unit capable of supporting the supply, fuel, and maintenance needs of the 4th Brigade.
The Headquarters Supply Company (HSC) was developed from assets throughout the Division Support Command. The soldiers of Company F, 2-227th Aviation Regiment (Aviation Intermediate Maintenance), now Company A, 615th ASB, was brought to the battalion the proud lineage they developed since 1963. Company C, 27th Main Support Battalion was redesignated as Company B, 615th ASB (Ground Maintenance and Supply Activities). These units were consolidated into the 615th Aviation Support Battalion at an activation ceremony on 17 September 1996.
Since that time this battalion has provided support to the 4th Brigade units. The battalion's soldiers were instrumental in the mass modernization of the 4th Brigade by fielding the AH-64 Longbow Apaches, OH-58D Kiowa Warriors, M1A2s, M88A2, M3A2s, the new contact trucks, and by implementing the new STAMIS equipment.
Soldiers of this battalion have participated in numerous deployments and National Training Center Rotations. In 1997 the 615th ASB sent elements forward to the Middle East in support of Intrinsic Action. During 1998/1999 the entire battalion deployed to Bosnia in support of Operation Joint Forge as part of Stabilization Force 4 and 5. Additionally this battalion has participated in several warfighter exercises using state of the art technology to fight and win against computer generated opposition.
The mission of the 615th Aviation Support Battalion is to provide logistical support to the 4th Brigade.
The 615th Aviation Support Battalion is organized with three companies.
The Headquarters and Supply Company (HSC) consists of all battalion-level command and staff personnel, all battalion food service personnel, and a support operations section. Additionally, it consists of the supply and service sections required to sustain the 4th Brigade.
The Alpha Company is an aviation intermediate maintenance company that repairs the aircraft of the 4th Brigade.
The Bravo Company is the ground maintenance company in the support battalion. It repairs all ground support equipment organic to the 4th Brigade.
