504th Military Intelligence Brigade

The 504th Military Intelligence Brigade, based at Ft Hood, Texas, provides III Corps with ground-based and airborne SIGINT and EW, close and deep HUMINT collection, and links to national and theater intelligence systems. The MI brigade can provide IEW assets to subordinate commands to weight the main effort. The corps MI brigade normally has three battalions: operations, tactical exploitation, and aerial exploitation.

The 504th Military Intelligence Brigade traces its linage to the early days of World War II as the 137th Signal Radio Intelligence Company, (Aviation). The unit was soon redesignated the 137th Signal Radio Intelligence Company. The brigade was reorganized and redesignated a number of times in the intervening years. The forerunner of the brigade had a variety of missions which affilitated it, for a time, with the National Broadcasting Company and the Army Security Agency. On April 21, 1978 the brigade was redesignated the 504th Military Intelligence Group (Corps) and reassigned to support the III Corps at Fort Hood, TX.

The unit was reorganized and redesignated on 16 April 1982 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 504th Military Intelligence Group, and on 16 September 1985 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 504th Military Intelligence Brigade.
