Forward Support Battalion
As of early 2006 due to the Army's move towards more efficient modular units, the 429th Brigade Support Battalion, formerly known as the 429th Forward Support Battalion, was redesignated from the 29th Infantry Divsion DISCOM to the newly established 116th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The transition is intended to allow for greater independence and mobility at the Brigade level within the Army and Army National Guard.
The federal mission of the 429th Forward Support Battalion was to provide division level logistics support for a light infantry division brigade and other divisional assets located in a brigade area. Its state mission was to protect life and property, and preserve peace, order and public safety.
The 429th FSB was part of Division Support Command (DISCOM). The DISCOM provided direct logistical and medical support to all organic and attached elements of the division DISCOM consisted of HHC/MMC, main support battalion, forward support battalion, and an aircraft maintenance company
The FSB consisted of Headquarters & Supply Company, Maintenance Company and Medical Company It's primary role was to provide direct support to Brigade and Division units operating in the Brigade area, under the DISCOM. HQ & CO A (Supply) had responsiblity for base cluster defense of BSA, operating under Brigade Command.
The 429th Forward Support Battalion, 1st Brigade was part of the "Stonewall Brigade".
The 429th Support Battalion (FSB) was officially organized on 1 April 1992 as result of restructuring the 29th Division Combat Service Support assets. HQ & CO A (Supply) was organized as new unit in Staunton, VA, on 14 August 1991. Company B (Maintenance) dates back to 1919, and was assigned to Richmond, VA. Company C (Medical) dates back to 1968, and was located in Charlottesville, VA.
