3rd Ordnance Battalion (Explosive Ordnance Disposal)
The 3rd Ordnance Battalion (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) was an assigned of the 71st Ordnance Group at Fort Carson, Colorado. Stationed at Joint Base Lewis McChord, the 555th Engineer Brigade provided administrative control while in garrison to the Battalion.
Previously, the 3rd Ordnance Battalion (EOD) had accomplished the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) support activity mission as part of the 52nd Ordnance Group, US Army Forces Command (FORSCOM). It provided command and control for several EOD ordnance companies strategically located within each control area. Installations and Major Commands (MACOMs) did not have a direct area support EOD responsibility.
The distinctive unit insignia of the 3rd Ordnance Battalion was crimson and yellow, the colors traditionally associated with the Ordnance branch. The crimson cannon balls shown on the band synbolized the numerical designation of the battalion. The yellow gear in chief was representative of the maintenance work perforned by the original organization and the yellow palm tree was characterisitc of the flora of the Southern California country-side where the Battalion was organized.
