2nd Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment
In 2006, the 2nd Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment was inactivated and its personnel reflagged the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Aviation Regiment, which remained assigned to the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade.
The mission of the 2nd Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment was to transition to war rapidly and provide theater aviation General Support to the Commander-in-Chief (CINC), Combined Forces Command (CFC), United States Forces Korea (USFK), and Eighth United States Army (EUSA).
Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 52nd Aviation Battalion was redesignated on 16 January 1996 as the 52nd Aviation, a parent regiment under the United States Army Regimental System. On the same date, the 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation was first constituted in the Regular Army and activated in Korea. The personnel of the 1st Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment, which had inactivated on 15 January 1996, were reflagged as 2-52nd Aviation.
On 16 June 2005, the 2nd Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment transformed itself from a 3 company, H-series Chinook Battalion into a General Support Aviation Battalion (GSAB), where it picked up an additional 4 companies. The 2nd Battalion (GS), 52nd Aviation Regiment was one of the most diverse, multi-purpose aviation battalions, providing general support, MEDEVAC, and VIP coverage. Also on 16 June 2005, the 2nd Multi-Functional Aviation Brigade was activated as part of the 2nd Infantry Division, assuming the role of the both the Division's aviation brigade and replacing the 6th Cavalry Brigade and 17th Aviation Brigade previously assigned to the Eighth US Army. 2nd Battalion, 52nd Aviation was reassigned to the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade.
