2nd Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment
The mission of the 2nd Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment is to transition to war rapidly and provide theater aviation General Support to the Commander-in- Chief (CINC),Combined Forces Command (CFC), United States Forces Korea (USFK), and Eighth United States Army (EUSA).
The unit was constituted 16 January 1996 in the Regular Army as the 2d Battalion, 52d Aviation, and activated in Korea.
C Company 52nd Aviation Regiment was activated on 12 April 1942 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as G Company, 2nd Battalion, 49th Quartermaster Regiment. G Company was staffed by black Americans and served proudly in Algeria, Corsica, and Italy from 13 march 1943 to 1 January 1946. While serving overseas, G Company participated in the Rome-Arno campaign and was re-designated as the 3547th Quartermaster Truck Company on December 14th, 1943. On January 1st 1946, the war in Europe being over, the Company was inactivated. Re-designated as the 45th Transportation Corps Truck Company, the 45th was reactivated 14 April 1947 at Fort Lawton, Washington. In August it was re-designated as the 45th Transportation Truck Company and served until 25 May 1950 when it was inactivated.
The needs of the Army changed and logistic requirements resulted in the reactivation of the Company on 25 July 1951 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. Re-designated 17 June 1951 the 45th Transportation Company, the unit completed its stateside mission and was deactivated 25 June 1956 at Fort Carson, Colorado. On 24 June 1960, the 45th Transportation Company was officially re-designated Company A, 3rd Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment on 25 April 1989. On 16 January 1996, the Company A, 3rd Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment was officially re-designated C Company, 52nd Aviation Regiment. The Company has continued in this mission to the present day providing aircraft maintenance support throughout Korea wherever and whenever needed.
