2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment
"Fury from the Sky"

The mission of the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment is to alert, marshal and deploy anywhere in the world within 18 hours, execute a forced-entry parachute assault, and attack to decisively defeat an enemy, in any terrain.

2nd Battalion, 508th Parachuate Infantry Regiment was first constituted on 6 October 1942 in the Army of the United States as Company B, 508th Parachute Infantry and activated on 20 October 1942 at Camp Blanding, Florida. This unit was inactivated 25 November 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.

The unit was redesignated on 16 April 1951 as Company B, 508th Airborne Infantry, concurrently allotted to the Regular Army and activated at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. This unit was inactivated on 22 March 1957 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

The unit was again redesignated on 15 July 1962 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 508th Infantry. It was assigned on 6 March 1964 to the 82nd Airborne Division, its organic elements concurrently constituted. The Battalion activated on 25 May 1964 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. It was inactivated on 30 April 1986 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and relieved from assignment to the 82d Airborne Division.

On 1 October 2005 the unit was redesignatd 2nd Battalion, 508th Infantry Regiment. On 16 June 2006 the unit was reactivated with the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. 3rd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment was inactivated, its personnel being reflagged as 2-508th Infantry. The unit was reorganized and redesignated as the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment. This transformation was part of the shift of the entire 82nd Airborne Division to the US Army's new modular force structure.

The 2nd Battalion, 508th Infantry Regiment was reactivated at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on 16 June 2006 to become part of the newly activated 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. This was part of the US Army's modularization process. The personnel came from 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division's 3rd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, which had been inactivated and reflagged.

In 2007 2-508th Parachute Infantry deployed along with other elements of the 82nd Airborne's newly activated 4th Brigade Combat Team, to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The unit continued to operate in that country into 2008.
