10th Soldier Support Battalion
"Mountain Support"

The 10th Soldier Support Battalion was activated on 23 July 1998. The unit was formed by merging the 33rd Finance Battalion and the 10th Personnel Support Battalion, both of which had histories and lineage of supporting soldiers during campaigns in World War II and Vietnam, and during operations to Haiti and Somalia.

The 10th Soldier Support Battalion was originally comprised of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Golf Detachment (AG), Hotel Detachment (AG), Delta Detachment (Finance), Echo Detachment (Finance), the 10th Replacement Company and the 10th Mountain Division Band. In the past couple years the structure of the Battalion changed to include Headquarters and Headquarters’ Company, Alpha Company (Finance), Bravo Company (AG), and the 10th Mountain Division Band. The 10th Replacement Company was moved from the SSB to Fort Drum’s Installation Troop Command in August of 2003.

The 10th Soldier Support Battalion, in conjunction with the 10th Mountain Division (LI) G1/AG provides a full range of finance, personnel, and musical support to soldiers, civilians, family members, and retirees at Fort Drum, New York and satellite installations throughout the northeastern United States. The Battalion is prepared to deploy in support of contingency operations at all times.

Since 1998, the 10th Soldier Support Battalion has supported numerous 10th Mountain Division (LI) exercises and operations to include deployments to JRTC, the Sinai, Egypt, Bosnia and Kosovo. From September 1999 to March 2001, the 10th Soldier Support Battalion conducted split-based operations at Fort Drum and in the Balkans in support of SFOR6. During the SFOR6 rotation, the battalion supported US and NATO troops at base camps in Multinational Division – North, Sarajevo, and at locations in Hungary and Croatia. In addition, the 10th Mountain Division Band deployed to Bosnia during the holiday season and conducted numerous concerts for soldiers throughout the area of operations as well as in civilian Bosnian communities.

In 2001, the Battalion deployed personnel to Sinai, Egypt in support of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) mission.

From October 2001 to April 2002, the 10th Soldier Support Battalion conducted split-based operations at Fort Drum and in Kosovo in support of KFOR3B. During the KFOR3B rotation, the Battalion supported US and NATO troops at base camps at Camps Bondsteel and Montieth in Kosovo and Camp Able Sentry in Macedonia as part of Task Force Falcon. In addition, the 10th Mountain Division Band deployed to Kosovo during the holiday season and conducted numerous concerts for soldiers throughout the area of operations as well as in civilian Kosovar communities.

In 2002, Soldiers from the 10th Soldier Support Battalion also deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Iraqi Freedom, and also to Kuwait in support of US Central Command (USCENTCOM) operations.

Beginning in June of 2003, the 10th Soldier Support Battalion sent an ADVON Team in support of the Combined Joint Task Force-180 with the Main Body following in August. The Battalion is deployed to four different sites. Conducting split-based operations; the Battalion is providing Personnel Service and Financial Management Support to those service members deployed in support of CJTF-180, and here at Fort Drum, supporting mobilizations and demobilizations, providing support for Soldier Readiness Checks to Reservists, National Guard and Regular Army Soldiers, and continuing daily mission requirements.

As of January 2004, The 10th SSB was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom by providing Personnel and Finance services both at Fort Drum and abroad.
