1st Bn (TS) (Engineer) 395th Regiment
Viper Battalion
The 1st (TS)(EN) / 395th Reg. trains, assists, and evaluates, Combat Engineer Reserve Component units within the Area of Responsibility. As directed, provides mobilization assistance to train and validate for deployment alerted engineer units at home station or assigned Power Projection Platforms. Upon notification, provides a Defense Coordinating Element to provide Military Support to Civilian Authorities during Federally declared disasters in Texas and New Mexico.
The battalion was activated on 03 May 1996 as the 1st Engineer Training Battalion, 3rd Regional Training Brigade, 5th United States Army. It was then deactivated and reactivated on 03 October 1997 as the 9th Training Support Battalion (Engineer), 3rd Regional Training Brigade, 5th United States Army. On 27 October 1997 the battalion became part of the 120th Infantry Brigade, 5th United States Army. As part of the Army's "Intergrated Division" initative the battalion was deactivated and then reactivated as the 1st Bn (TS) (EN) / 395th Reg, 2nd Brigade, 75th Division (Training). Whatever the name, the Viper Battalion continues in it's mission of training Reserve-Component Combat Enginner
