1st Battalion, 160th Aviation Regiment (Special Operations) (Airborne)

The 1st Battalion, 1st Battalion, 160th Aviation Regiment (Special Operations) (Airborne), better known as 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) is based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

The 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) was first constituted on 1 April 1982 in the Regular Army as Company A, 160th Aviation Battalion, and activated at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as an element of the 101st Airborne Division. The 160th Aviation Battalion was relieved on 16 October 1986 from assignment to the 101st Airborne Division.

The unit was reorganized and redesignated on 16 January 1988 as Company A, 160th Aviation. It was again reorganized and redesignated on 16 May 1990 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 160th Aviation with its organic elements concurrently constituted and activated. The remaining 4 companies were reflagged from B, C, D, and F Companies, 160th Aviation, then assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Group. The unit was formed in 1990, and reportedly was assigned to support operations supporting 1st Special Forces Operational Detachmen - Delta (SFOD-D or "Delta Force"), SEAL Team Six and various civilan intelligence agencies. By the early 2000s, the unit was equipped with 18 AH-6H/J, 18 MH-6H/J, 20 MH-60K, 15 MH-60L (of which about half are configured as MH-60L DAP aircraft, also known as "AH-60L").

The Battalion was officially redesignated on 1 October 2005 as the 1st Battalion, 160th Aviation Regiment. Prior to that date, the official designation had been 1st Battalion, 160th Aviation.
