Based at Hanchey Army Heliport, Fort Rucker, Alabama, 1-14th Avn Regt provides advanced flight training for U.S. and Allied pilots in the OH-58D, AH-64A, and AH-64D aircraft. 1st Battalion, 14th Aviation Regiment conducts graduate flight instruction in the AH-64A, AH-64D, and OH-58(I) to produce technically competent aviation soldiers.
METL: Conduct Aviator Qualification and Instructor Pilot training in the AH-64A, AH-64D, and OH-58D(I). Conduct AH-64D Longbow maintenance training at Mesa, AZ. Operate Molinelli Aerial Gunnery Range complex. Conduct base operations at Hanchey Army Heliport and Mesa, AZ. Protect the force. Prepare for and conduct contingency operations.
Lineage: Constituted 2 September 1964 in the Regular Army as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 14th Aviation Battalion. Activated 3 September 1964 at Fort Benning, GA. Reorganized and redesignated 1 December 1968 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 14th Aviation Battalion. Reorganized and redesignated 16 August 1979 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 14th Aviation Battalion. Inactivated 16 September 1987 at Fort Hood, Texas. Redesignated 17 November 1987 as the 14th Aviation, a parent regiment under the United States Army Regimental System, and transferred to the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command, with Headquarters at Fort Rucker, Alabama.
